A fresh blog layout for spring

fresh blog layout for spring

Isn’t spring great for fresh starts and new beginnings? The arrival of spring always makes me feel uplifted and encourages me to take a fresh look at things, whether that be my lifestyle, eating habits, home dรฉcor or work. I’ve been having a massive de-clutter of the house in a bid to simplify our lives (more on that in a future post) and it has really helped me to be more positive after our disappointing start to the year.

I wanted to make some changes to my blog to reflect this, and started modifying my Blogger blog to be cleaner and more simplified, but I was struggling to get it to do what I wanted, and was hand coding lots of bits to add functionality. I’m not sure why I got so obsessed with getting Blogger to do what I wanted when I knew WordPress would be able to do it in a click (I use WordPress for my business website), but I did get some small satisfaction out of forcing Blogger to bend to my wants!

However, last weekend I decided I’d had enough and would make the move to WordPress. I felt really nervous because, although I’m under no illusion that lots of people read my blog, I didn’t want to lose all my posts from the past two years as they serve as a lovely record of our little family.

I needn’t have worried, as the process of exporting my posts from Blogger and then importing them into WordPress was very straight forward. And installing and customising my new theme was a doddle. The time-consuming bit for me was editing my old posts so that they looked good with my new layout. I’ve barely scratched the surface with this, so please bear with me if you happen to read an old post and it’s a little untidy. Also, many posts don’t yet have categories so they may be impossible to find just now.

It should be much easier to navigate around my blog now, which is something I’m looking forward to. My blog primarily is a way for me to document life with my little family, and I like to look back over posts and see how Rosalie has changed or look up what we did this time last year for example, and I’m hoping things like this will be much easier now.

I am really pleased with my new blog layout and definitely glad that I made the move from Blogger to WordPress, and I hope you enjoy the new look too!

It looks gorgeous Jess, you must be so pleased with it. And it is definitely nice to have a new look for Springtime. I made the move from Joomla to wordpress about a year ago now and it is the best thing I ever did- WordPress is just so much better for me. x

Loving the new blog layout, Jess.

I made the switch from Blogger to WP last summer and I’m still in the process of tidying up old posts – seems to be one of those jobs that gets pushed to the back-burner. xx

Thanks Jenna! It seems to be quite time consuming, not least because I like to read them back and reminisce over the photos! xx
