Little person, big personality

toddler in springtime

When I look back at pictures of newborn Rosalie I see this tiny, helpless little thing with a whole future ahead of her – nothing fixed, changing every day, inching her way closer to becoming a little person with a big personality and even bigger dreams. We had no idea what things would captivate her or where her biggest curiosity would lie. We still don’t really, she is only two, but it’s truly wonderful to watch her begin to flourish.

My little chatterbox who brightens my days from the minute she wakes – even before we fetch her from her room we hear her chattering away to her toys, telling them stories. She loves to tell stories. Her imagination is a mix of experiences we’ve shared, books we read and songs we sing. She soaks up all this information like a sponge and then regurgitates it in the form of beautifully garbled tales.

Our little serious girl who loves routine and order. A thinker, like her daddy, and hard to please, like her mummy!

ordering her chalks

She is a dancer, not in any defined sense of the word, but she loves to move to any kind of music; she asks me to put music on so she can be a ballerina, then sways around the room saying she is a ‘beautiful swan’. How I envy her carefree nature, uninhibited and blissfully happy in her own world.

My little book worm, she could sit for hours listening to stories and looking at books; she always wants ‘just one more’ and our trips to the library are some of our favourite times together during the week. There is no cuter sight and sound than when she is ‘reading’ to her teddies, reciting the story and turning the pages in perfect time as if she were actually reading the words.

stick-wielding explorer

She is an explorer. A welly boot wearing, stick wielding explorer. Confident and independent, she will go off the beaten track to sniff a flower, spot an insect, kick the leaves or jump in a puddle. Fearless and brave she attempts to stroke any dog that crosses her path, even ones twice her size. She tickles worms, chases bees and always wants to make friends with the birds. There’s something so special about that toddler curiosity which makes even the simplest of things seem completely magical.

feeding teddy

The love of her life is the exceedingly care-worn Teddy. If you ask Rosalie who her best friend is, nine times out of ten she will say Teddy. He is her confident, her companion, her playmate, her handkerchief to wipe tears on, her pillow when she’s tired and an incredibly good listener. She cooks him meals in her play kitchen, pushes him around in the dolls’ buggy and puts him to sleep in the dolls’ carrycot. I honestly don’t know what we would do if she lost Teddy.

teddy bears' picnic

My darling daughter the picnic lover – she literally would go for a picnic in the pouring rain. She loves real picnics, pretend picnics, outdoor picnics and indoor picnics. Even when it’s freezing and her fingers are all red from the cold she will be happily scoffing her picnic.

She is my mini baker and cook’s assistant, eagerly fetching her apron from the drawer and dragging a chair up to the counter as soon as she gets a whiff of any baking occurring. Admittedly she’s better at eating the ingredients than weighing them, but isn’t that half the fun anyway?

eating flour

Rosalie is wonderfully crazy and delightfully determined; being her mummy is a truly brilliant adventure.

Some gorgeous photos Jess! Your little lady sounds like she has a beautiful personality. Its scary how fast they grow & develop, my favourite thing about blogging is recording these memories so they are never, ever forgotten.

Thanks Hannah! It is so scary how quickly she is growing and I agree that one of the best things about blogging is recording the memories and having them in such an accessible format to look back on xx
